Abstract

The increase in the number of divorces in Russia has become a progressively urgent problem in recent years. According to the author, unjus-tified standards that do not develop and even impede the execution of family protection tasks have been added by the drafters of the current Family Code to the family legislation of modern Russia, which largely preserved the continuity with respect to the Soviet legislation on marriage and family, in the part devoted to dis-solution of marriage. As measures to strengthen family and marriage, the author proposes to amend the Family Code of the Russian Federation, in particular, to increase the period for divorcing in civil registry offices and issuing a corresponding certificate to three months, to eliminate the rule that allows the court to dissolve the marriage without clarifying the reasons for divorcing, to enter a deadline for reconciliation of spouses within six months for all cases of divorce in court.
